At COFI’s 2007 Annual Convention in Prince George the COFI Board of Directors announced a series of education scholarships intended to encourage the next generation of leaders to choose a professional, technical or trades career in the forest sector.
The Council of Forest Industries is the voice of the BC interior forest industry. COFI member companies operate 100 production facilities in more than 60 forest dependent communities in the interior of British Columbia. COFI member company operations account for approximately 80 percent of all BC softwood lumber shipments and about 35 percent of Canadian softwood lumber shipments.
Ten $1000 entrance scholarships will be offered each fall to students planning to attend for the first time any one of the ten post-secondary educational institutions in the interior of BC enrolling in professional, technical or trades studies leading to a career in the forest sector.
To be eligible for this scholarship, students must be planning to attend any one of the 10 post secondary educational institutions in the interior of BC enrolling in professional, technical or trades studies leading to a career in the forest sector.
Eligible institutions include:
College of New Caledonia
College of the Rockies
Nicola Valley Institute of Technology
Northern Lights College
Northwest Community College
Okanagan College
Selkirk College
Thompson Rivers University
UBC Okanagan
University of Northern BC
As these are entrance scholarships, preference will be given to students entering a program of study for the first time. This may include high school graduates, mature students or students changing programs. Recipients of the award need to show academic success as well as clear career goals.
